Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI), the country's largest shore base and logistics hub for the oil and gas sector, has appointed six Guyanese nationals to its Base Manager positions, the first time all such posts are held by locals rather than expatriates, INews Guyana reported on November 7, 2026. The move includes the appointment of Nkosi Sandy, the first female Base Manager in Guyana, and comes as Guyanese now make up 96 per cent of the company's workforce.
The six managers all rose through the ranks at GYSBI, a sign that the local content model long demanded by Guyanese policymakers can deliver results when companies invest in training rather than simply rotating in foreign staff. For a country whose oil economy has too often been accused of keeping the best jobs offshore, the appointments mark a concrete shift in who gets to lead.
Who Are the New Base Managers?
Rondell Wade and Rohit Gulchand become Senior Base Managers, while Michael Lambert, Nkosi Sandy, Aveledo Lindie and Marvin McLennon take on Annex Base Manager roles. Each spent years moving across departments, from warehouse supervision and logistics coordination to health and safety, before stepping into leadership.
Wade, 33, joined GYSBI in February 2018 as a Warehouse Supervisor after a stint at RUSAL, working up through Logistics Coordinator and Base Coordinator. Gulchand, 41, arrived in June 2018 as a Banksman after serving as a Bookkeeper and Senior Shipping Clerk at the Guyana Sugar Corporation, and followed the same path to his new senior role.
Lambert, 30, joined in June 2019 straight out of high school as a Banksman. Lindie, 49, started as a Driver in July 2017 after working in the gold mining industry, then moved to Forklift Operator and Warehouse Supervisor. McLennon, 34, came aboard in October 2020 from the Ministry of Natural Resources' Corps of Wardens and built his career through quality, health, safety and environment roles, including a turn as G-City Base Manager.
Sandy, 34, a mother of two, joined in December 2018 as a Banksman after working as a Draftswoman at the Brass Aluminium and Cast-Iron Foundry. She became the first woman to hold the posts of Foreman, Logistics Coordinator and Base Coordinator before her promotion, making her appointment a double milestone for Guyanese women in industry.
What the Company Says
GYSBI Chief Executive Officer Oliver Kassam said the appointments show the company can now develop management expertise from within its own workforce.
