A devastating incident of domestic violence unfolded in Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice on Sunday, September 14, as a husband fatally attacked his wife before taking his own life, adding to Guyana's concerning pattern of domestic violence cases.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The victim, 36-year-old Alisha Narine, known locally as "Tito," was attacked between 9:30 and 10:00 hrs near the Vishal Singh Sawmill Compound. The incident occurred as Guyana continues to strengthen its community development initiatives across various regions.

Final Moments Captured on Video Call

According to police reports, Narine was on a WhatsApp video call with her US-based cousin, Taramattie Joseph, when the attack occurred. The suspect, Ram Singh, was seen approaching with a cutlass before threatening to murder Narine and ending the call abruptly.

Police Response and Investigation

Law enforcement arrived at the scene after being alerted by the victim's 18-year-old daughter, Felisha Narine. They discovered the victim's body with severe injuries, including a nearly severed right leg and wounds to the right shoulder and left hand. This incident comes as Guyana strengthens its security partnerships to address various social challenges.

Tragic Conclusion

The suspect's body was found approximately 360 feet away, with evidence suggesting he had consumed Gramoxone, a poisonous substance. Despite being rushed to the No. 75 Village Regional Hospital, he did not survive. Both bodies have been transferred to the Skeldon Public Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
