The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), home of the historic Bourda ground, celebrated a significant milestone as the KFC Mini Zingers Cricket Programme completed its first year of nurturing young cricket talent.
Programme Achievements and Graduation
The anniversary celebration began with an early morning practice session at 08:00hrs, bringing together 75 enthusiastic students and their parents at the Caribbean's oldest cricket club. In a significant development, twenty promising young cricketers graduated to the GCC's Junior Academy programme under Coach Peter Persaud's guidance.
International Diversity and Future Prospects
The programme has attracted a remarkably diverse group of participants, including students from India, England, Colombia, and the USA. With 183 children aged between five and 12 years, including six female cricketers, the initiative demonstrates GCC's commitment to inclusive sports development, following in the footsteps of Guyana's cricket excellence.
Corporate Support and Community Impact
KFC Marketing Representative Charmaine Farnum emphasized the company's dedication to community development through sports: "We don't only sponsor cricket, but we also support football, basketball and volleyball." The celebration featured certificate presentations by GCC President Johnathon Yearwood and concluded with commemorative refreshments.
