Young cricketers celebrate first anniversary of KFC Mini Zingers Programme at historic Georgetown Cricket Club

The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), one of the Caribbean's most prestigious cricket institutions and home to many memorable cricket moments, celebrated a significant milestone yesterday with the first anniversary of its KFC Mini Zingers Cricket Programme.

Youth Development Success

The celebration began with an early morning practice session at 08:00hrs on the historic Bourda ground, bringing together 75 young cricket enthusiasts. In a notable achievement, twenty promising students graduated to the club's Junior Academy programme under Coach Peter Persaud's guidance.

International Diversity and Growth

The programme has shown remarkable growth, now hosting 183 children aged 5-12 years, including six female cricketers. The initiative has attracted a diverse international cohort with participants from India, England, Colombia, and the USA, reflecting cricket's growing global appeal in the region.

Corporate Partnership Impact

KFC's involvement demonstrates the positive impact of private sector investment in sports development. Marketing Representative Charmaine Farnum highlighted the company's commitment to community development through various sports initiatives, including cricket, football, basketball, and volleyball.

"This programme could be the beginning of a career for England, India, the US and the West Indies," stated GCC President Johnathon Yearwood during the ceremony.

The celebration concluded with an anniversary ceremony, where community leadership was recognized through certificate presentations and refreshments for all participants.
