Young cricketers and officials gather at historic GCC Bourda ground for KFC Mini Zingers Cricket Programme anniversary celebration

The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), custodian of the historic Bourda ground and home to Guyana's premier cricket development initiatives, marked a significant milestone yesterday with the first anniversary celebration of its Mini Zingers Cricket Programme.

Programme Highlights and Achievements

The celebration began with a morning practice session at 8:00 AM, bringing together 75 young cricketers. In a notable achievement, twenty promising students advanced to the GCC's Junior Academy programme under Coach Peter Persaud's guidance, following the path of many who have contributed to Guyana's cricket excellence.

International Diversity and Growth

The programme showcases remarkable diversity, with participants from India, England, Colombia, and the USA among its 183 enrollees. GCC President Johnathon Yearwood highlighted the inclusion of six female cricketers, ages ranging from five to 12 years, demonstrating the programme's commitment to inclusive sports development.

Corporate Social Responsibility

KFC Marketing Representative Charmaine Farnum emphasized the company's dedication to community development through sports, noting their support extends beyond cricket to other sports like football, basketball, and volleyball. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance community well-being and youth development in Guyana.

Celebration and Recognition

The ceremony featured the presentation of certificates by GCC President Yearwood and KFC representatives, culminating in the sharing of an anniversary cake and refreshments. Students received KFC-branded bottles as mementos of the occasion.
