GECOM Condemns Electoral Disinformation Attempt During Vote Recount
GECOM takes firm stance against unauthorized filming and misinformation during ballot recount, warning of legal consequences for attempts to undermine electoral integrity.

GECOM officials conducting ballot recount under strict protocols and observation
The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has issued a forceful rebuke against what it terms a "serious breach" of electoral protocols, following unauthorized filming and dissemination of misleading information about ballot boxes by Hadiyyah Mohamed, sister of the We Invest in Nationhood's (WIN) Presidential Candidate.
Breach of Electoral Protocols
The incident occurred during the ongoing ballot recount process in Sub-District 4 of District 4, where Mohamed filmed ballot boxes awaiting recount on GECOM's premises. The footage, later shared on social media with unsubstantiated claims of tampering, has been strongly denounced by election officials.
GECOM's Response and Safeguards
In its official statement, GECOM emphasized that all recount participants must adhere to strict protocols designed to maintain process integrity. The unauthorized recording of sensitive electoral materials is explicitly prohibited to prevent misinformation and protect public trust in the democratic process.
"This act represents a serious breach of established protocols and a deliberate attempt to undermine the integrity of the electoral process," the Commission stated.
Transparent Monitoring Process
GECOM has reassured the public that the recount continues under close supervision by representatives from all competing political parties and accredited observers. The overall electoral process has maintained its peaceful and transparent nature, progressing with minimal disruptions despite this incident.
Legal Warning and Public Advisory
The Commission has issued a stern warning against further attempts to discredit the electoral process, threatening legal action against such behavior. Citizens are urged to rely solely on official GECOM updates and verified media sources for accurate information about the ongoing recount process.
